Minor Basilica and Convent of San Francisco · Salta
Just one block from Salta's main square, a burgundy facade with white columns and a bell tower rising over 50 meters—considered one of the tallest in South America—marks one of the most recognizable buildings in northern Argentina. The site's history mirrors that of the city itself: in 1582, Salta's founder granted this land to the Franciscan friars. Since then, the church was built, burned down, rebuilt, and transformed over nearly three centuries to reach its current form. Today, it stands as a Minor Basilica and a National Historic Monument. When night falls, the building tells its own story. Luces de Paz y Bien is a 3D videomapping show that transforms the complex's architecture into a massive, living canvas. Light sweeps across walls, columns, and ornaments to recount the history of the Franciscan order and its arrival in these lands, from Francis of Assisi to present-day Salta. The title draws from the traditional Franciscan greeting, Paz y Bien ("Peace and All Good"), evolving it into an experience that merges heritage, spirituality, and technology. The building isn't just a backdrop—it's the main character, with every architectural line woven into the narrative. It offers a fresh way to experience one of the city's key landmarks, making it a highlight of Salta's cultural and tourism scene, especially during major occasions like Holy Week.
